RWTH Themenheft on Research Software Engineering
Posted on 2024/08/19
The RWTH Themenheft is a (bi)annual journal published by RWTH Aachen University. It highlights the university’s research initiatives, innovative projects, and academic achievements across various disciplines. Each issue is centered around a specific theme, showcasing in-depth articles, interviews with experts, and insights into cutting-edge developments in science, technology and engineering. The journal is designed to engage a broad audience, including researchers, students, industry partners, and the general public, by providing a comprehensive overview of RWTH Aachen’s contributions to academia and society.
The issue 01/2024 is centered around the subject of Research Software Engineering and presents a multitude of software packages linked to RWTH Aachen University as well as their developers and use cases. GIM members Marc Boxberg, Nino Menzel and Florian Wagner contributed to the issue by presenting the geophysical software package pyGIMLi (Rücker et al., 2017). Under the slogan “Imaging structures and processes in the subsurface”, we explain the core of applied geophysics underlining how pyGIMLi is utilized in the context of geophysical imaging and monitoring and also provide an overview of pyGIMLi’s software architecture.
