EGU outstanding presentation award for Nino Menzel

The annual General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) is Europe’s largest and most prominent geosciences event. It attracts more than 16,000 scientists from all over the world. This year, GIM researcher Nino Menzel received the Outstanding Student and PhD Candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award by the Seismology Division. Awardees are recognized not only for their scientific rigor but also for their ability to effectively communicate complex findings to a broad audience.
The winning poster was presented in Vienna in April this year and is titled “Strategies for geoelectrical monitoring of subsurface fluid transport processes using Optimized Experimental Design” with co-authors Sebastian Uhlemann and Florian M. Wagner. It explores the optimization of geoelectrical measurement design tailored to transient flow processes in the subsurface. Three different Optimized Experimental Design (OED) strategies were discussed and applied to a synthetic tracer flow simulation. The findings contribute to the development of “Smart Monitoring” strategies for subsurface processes at high spatial and temporal resolution.
Warmest congratulations also to our RWTH colleague Dr. Julia Schmitz, who received the award in the Division on Tectonics and Structural Geology.
